Dig your own fire pit

I have always wanted a fire pit. I love the idea of roasting marshmallows and hot dogs over an open flame and enjoying a cool summer evening  outdoors.

We considered purchasing a fire pit but found the options too expensive, We also had a fair bit of brick, concrete, and cinder blocks laying in a pile at the back of the house. After some online searching and some planning we ended up with this. It didn’t cost a thing.

The finished fire pit.

We started by digging a hole and placing the cinder blocks in a square. We dug the center down deeper and put in the concrete chunks in the middle. We dug a circle around the top and filled it in with white stones.

Before we added the stones.

Broken brick and concrete in the center of the pit.

We still need to add a grill over the top before using it to comply with the city by-laws. I’m on the hunt for one as we speak…

I found our city by-laws online here. If you decide to make your own fire pit find your city by-laws before you start.
