Trunk Table

When my mom’s family immigrated from England they packed a trunk that later sat in our family home and held meters and meters of fabric. I remember lifting the lid and running my hand over the material and I dreamed of all the things my mother might create.

Now, the trunk sits in my home and every time I look at it I think of my mom. I am a firm believer that if an item is sentimental enough to keep, than it deserves to be on display. So this trunk became a side table.

The trunk is nicely weathered, so it is a perfect match for our nicely weathered wood table. You could paint a table, then sand the edges to create this rustic look, or you can do what we did. Sit it outside in the rain and forget about it for a full season. Then, dry it in the sun. Bam. Weathered.

This unique side table/trunk serves double duty. It also stores all the kids electronic goodies.

I love it when something can be practical as well as pretty and meaningful. Thanks, Mom!
