Kitchen Island Stools

Not too long ago, I built this kitchen island. Immediately following, I began the hunt for island stools.

I had island stools from our old house, but they were too clunky to fit three across and slip under the counter overhang. Ever thrifty, I decided to remove the swivel chair from the top of two of the stools and use the base.

The white stool is the base. Next, the hunt began for the third stool. I found the same swivel style stool stained a light oak on kijiji, and scooped it up. Unfortunately, when I removed the swivel, it didn’t have a seat like the other two.

These are the removed seats.

My dad built a seat and attached it to the base, matching it as best as he could to the other two. I painted them Storm Cloud blue by Sherman Williams.

Afterwards, I used a stiff paint brush, dipped it into a reddish paintable stain, and dabbed it dry on a paper towel. I dry-brushed the red stain over the blue.

I actually love the finish so much, I’m trying to decide what I can paint next… maybe a table and chairs…

Happy painting!
