It is no surprise to my regular readers that I love to renovate. I love to repurpose. And I love to save $$$ by using something already on hand to suit a new need. This heart beats a little faster at the start of a new project, and that may seem a bit crazy to some people, but that’s okay. A little crazy keeps life interesting.
This past week, Makeover Monday was pleased to hijack a friend’s kitchen and bathroom project. They were happy to hand off the large project to free themselves to focus on other, more pressing needs in their new home. But let me tell you, it was PURE JOY to serve them this way.
When you are blessed to serve others in areas of personal passion, you slip into that sweet spot of giving that is absolute joy.
This this not a free pass to get out of boring you-fill-in-the-blank service opportunities. Some ministry tasks cannot be denied, and you might never be passionate about them, yet they need to be a priority—especially if a brother or sister is in need. But, let me encourage you to also discover your passion in life. What excites you? What are you good at? What makes your heartbeat quicken? Then, actively look for ways to love on others in those areas.
It has only been in the last few years that I truly discovered where and how I LOVE to serve. I love to write and I love to use this ability to bring honour to God. How I do that is pretty straight forward. I limit outside editing projects to those that bring God the most honour and glory. I encourage those less experienced in writing to keep on submitting those queries. And I ensure that my personal writing projects highlight the one true God whom I love and serve.
I also love renovation projects. Using this passion to bring honour to God has been a bit trickier to figure out. But opportunities like this recent kitchen and bathroom job help me get a little bit closer to my goal of using my gifts to ease life’s burdens on loved brothers and sisters in Christ.
All for the glory of God!
Proverbs 3:27, “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it.”
Matthew 25:35-40, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”
Luke 3:10-11, “And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?” And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”
