Easy Advent Tree

Our family uses Ann VosKamp’s book, Unwrapping the Greatest Gift, to prepare our hearts for Christmas.

Her website provides free printables of tree ornaments that correspond with the daily readings, along with numbered envelopes to keep them in order. I printed the ornaments, pasted them to card stock, hole punched the top and threaded in twine. Last year, the the kids coloured the ornaments as we opened them. This year, we will hang them and as the years pass I expect we will enjoy their handiwork more and more.

Earlier this month, I scooped up this small tree curb-side and spent about an hour untwisting and arranging the wired branches. I added ribbon (leftover from last year) and placed the numbered envelopes inside the branches. Our Advent tree is ready.

What does your family do to prepare your hearts to celebrate the birth of Christ?
